"Together, Together": The Worst Film Of 2021

 "Together, Together": Movie Review

Written By Alex Greenbaum

Attempting to dissect this putrid attempt at insight and humor will be one of my more difficult reviews. "Together, Together" doesn't simply exist to shed some perspective into the pregnancy process, but spoon feeds its plainly ridiculous agenda onto the viewer with no humor, intelligence or believable characters. Everything in this film's fictitious world lives in a hyperbolic bubble, where everyone accepts their existence as a futile experiment. Director/ writer Nicole Beckwith melts a cute concept into cringe inducing comedy filled with 90 minutes of torturous contrivances.

An anxiety induced loner (Ed Helms) uses a surrogate (Patti Harrison) to start the family he always wanted and as his bond strengthens with the surrogate, his views on relationships shift.

"Together, Together" shouldn't be this painful to endure, but Beckwith's commentary on our society is incredibly false and worrying. Her perspective never touches the realities of the world productively, rarely infusing the script with any notable moments. Between Helms and Harrison, it's hard to choose who is more disappointing, as both struggle to maintain any sort of semblance of chemistry, as Helms' usual charm is stilted.

Trying to discover any sort of achievement for the film is a tenuous task, not worthy of any further analyzation. Helms and Harrison are painful to watch, Beckwith's direction is laughably horrendous, and its undeniably forced opinions on modern day society are out of touch. "Together, Together" is easily the worst film of 2021 .
