"Portrait Of A Lady On Fire": A Ravishing Cinematic Experience

"Portrait Of A Lady On Fire": Movie Review

The crashing oceanic waves sweep one of the more beautifully moving films in recent memory. Unflinching and authentic, "Portrait Of A Lady On Fire" is a ravishing cinematic experience not to be missed in 2020.

In 18th century France, a skilled painter (Noémie
Merlant), must draw up a portrait of a young woman (Adèle Haenel) whose damaged past and mysterious behavior leads to a dynamically intriguing relationship.

Each and every scene and piece of photography is used in such a deliberate and poetically conceived manner, the film shines bright even in its most dramatic of sequences. The romantic bond formed between these two women never feels overwrought with tension, but rather organically executed, leaving enough room for the viewer to enjoy its stunning cinematography.

Director Céline Sciamma has concocted a romantic tale for the ages. With an intelligent screenplay and one of the more touching love stories you'll see, we have our first big winner of the new decade.
