Top 10 Films Of 2019: Family And Friendship Ruled 2019

                                      Top Ten Films Of 2019

    10. "The Farewell"

It's quite astonishing that it took this long to develop a film about a Chinese family dealing with internal conflict. Simple, and eye opening, "The Farewell" is unforgettable.

9. "Paddleton"

Equally hilarious, as it is painfully hard to watch, "Paddleton" delivers like no other film this year. The final thirty minutes is tough to endure, but it's the cherry on top of a film about letting go, even if it hurts.

8. "Parasite"

The hype is real. "Parasite" and its unflinching social commentary on class is vicious, and the fascinating thriller that slowly unravels is as devious as it is enthralling.

7. "The Two Popes"

Anthony McCarten's brilliant script is sharp, funny, and touching. "The Two Popes" showcases how two people with vastly different political perspectives can still respect each other's personal beliefs.

6: "Pain and Glory"

"Pain and Glory" has grown on me in ways I couldn't have imagined. Every scene, and moment of dialogue is thoughtful and its insightful, semi autobiographical nuances on film struck a heartfelt cord with me.

5. "Uncut Gems"

There isn't one redeemable character in the whole film, but "Uncut Gems" is an adrenaline thrill ride. Adam Sandler unleashes the best performance of 2019, and the Safdie Brothers ("Good Time") have put themselves on the list of cinema masters.

4. "American Woman"

Is there a list for the most underrated film of 2019? If there was, "American Woman" would undoubtedly be at the top. Sienna Miller crushes her performance, and its message about coming from nothing and becoming something is extraordinary. I was blown away.

3. "Doctor Sleep"

In the last twenty years, no horror movie has the charm nor the wit that "Doctor Sleep" does. From some of the most fleshed out villains in recent memory, to an ending that left me in tears, "Doctor Sleep" defies the horror genre convention.

2. "Little Women"

Even though its story has been told many times prior, "Little Women" is sublime. It promotes kindness, strength and has the courage to add modern day themes to the original 19th century story. A fantastic piece of entertainment that demands to be seen.

1. "Waves"

"Waves" redefines cinema for a new generation. This is as real as it gets, and director Trey Edward Shults ("Krisha", "It Comes At Night") doesn't shy from making you feel as uncomfortable as possible. Gorgeously filmed, gutsy, and completely unflinching, "Waves" is the one and only masterpiece of 2019.
