"A Hidden Life": A Cinematic Showcase, That Quickly Loses Steam

"A Hidden Life": Movie Review

"A Hidden Life", is a cinematic showcase of breathtaking cinematography. However, Terrence Malick's ("The New World", "Badlands", "The Tree Of Life") ninth entry loses steam all too quickly.

During World War 2, a conscientious objector (August Diehl) in Austria, refuses to join the Nazi cause.

The seemingly infinite beauty displayed is quite similar to Malick's prior films, and are solidified by some solid performances and powerful message. Unfortunately, the latter half ultimately ruins this important and somewhat relevant subject matter. The grueling nature of its predictable tropes and battering of spiritual and religious significance falls flat.

"A Hidden Life" could've been so much more.
