"Bombshell": Movie Review
"Bombshell" is as applicable to 21st Century politics, as any film this year. Its journalistic instinct and integrity for the truth is praiseworthy and establishes itself as a must-see film of 2019.
Chronicling the tumultuous harassment accusations against the Fox News CEO, Roger Ailes (Jon Lithgow) in 2016, three woman manage their personal anguish as they fight for what is morally right.
Between the tremendous showcase by Charlize Theron (as Megyn Kelly) and the subtly headstrong, but swiftly intelligent Nicole Kidman (as Gretchen Carlson), the performances across the board are special. Additionally, Margot Robbie (a fictionalized but purposeful character) is able to maneuver one of her best acting jobs to date.
Writer Charles Randolph ("The Big Short"), smart, intelligent and quick witted dialogue is cutting edge. Even if it borders on parody momentarily, Randolph's dynamic ability to fairly portray his subjects, is beneficial to its true to life material.
There is a number of pacing issues and brief instances of comic relief gone to far, but "Bombshell" proves to excel where other films of its ilk have failed. It's a film that needs to be seen, so woman can confidently stand up to the behemoth of systematic corruption.
