"IT Chapter Two": The Finest Guilty Pleasure Film Of The Year

"IT Chapter Two": Movie Review

"IT Chapter Two" is a befuddling mess of missed opportunities, but ends up being one of the finest guilty pleasure films of the year. With a believable grown up cast, and some authentically heartfelt moments, it's close to three hour length went undeniably quick.

Taking place 27 years after the murderous Pennywise (Alexander Skarsgard) haunted the small town of Derry, the losers club regroups to finish what they started.

This is not a well put together film by any stretch of the imagination. Rather then a scene to scene flow, director Andy Muschietti's vision is a montage of engaging moments, which are excellent on their own, but it's clear the film was edited down from its previous four hour length.

Newcomers such as Bill Hader, Jessica Chastain and James McAvoy have taken the roles of the kids to absolute perfection. Each of the performances are very believable (while contrived at times) and it's the chemistry that really brings out the films strengths.

Pennywise again however is another issue. While the scares are too few and far between, Pennywise doesn't help and does little to instill that moment to moment fear. And again, wasting a dedicated and wonderful performance by Skarsgard who's CGI clone lacks that punch.

"IT Chapter Two" is full of "holy shit" moments that blew me away, but it's stitched together, three hour format is faulty at best. While it's a shame that the actual editing is off a majority of the time, I can't deny how much fun I had from beginning to end.
