"Toy Story 4": Movie Review
It's unfortunate, but "Toy Story 4" is a completely unnecessary sequel. An obvious summer cash grab, that has some exciting new characters that can't quite save it's familiar premise.
"Forky" (Tony Hale), a deep and yet hilarious new side character, joins Woody (Tom Hanks) and friends for one last adventure.
To start off with the positive, the CGI is absolutely stunning. It's another visual treat from Pixar, that has seemingly taken the next step in animation mastery. Whats more, is the amazing voice work by Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and the new incredible character Forky, played by Tony Hale. Forky is a profound character, rooted in its layered subtext about mental health. A truly remarkable feat, that isn't given the deserved screen time.
And that's where "Toy Story 4" falters to a point of borderline failure. Head scratching decisions made with a redundant plot line, and a juvenile script are just some of the annoyances scattered throughout. Pixar used to have gleeful surprises, but "Toy Story 4" ends up being rather predictable.
This is by no means a bad Pixar film, but a disappointing one. It has some memorable characters and mind blowing visuals, but a recycled script detracts from these very special moments.
