"Detainment": Movie Review
This coming Sunday, the Oscars air, and five Academy Award Shorts have been nominated. While the majority were excellent, the Irish made film, "Detainment", has stuck with me.
It's a devastating true story about the murder of a two-year-old child in Ireland, by two ten-year-old children, all seen through the eyes of the investigators interrogating the children.
It's obviously not for everyone, and there has already been a petition to remove the short from the Oscars. However, it's quite frankly, an amazing and haunting look into the two youngest convicted murderers in the 20th century. The two kids that play Thompson and Venables are astounding, with a bunch of hair raising moments in its 30 minute run time.
I'm not here to necessarily recommend the film to everyone but to give credit to director Vincent Lambe. This is not an easy subject to tackle, and he's done it with flying colors.
Absolutely stunning.
