"If Beale Street Could Talk": Movie Review
"If Beale Street Could Talk" is a gorgeously shot but mean spirited, rhetoric driven film with little substance or character development.
In the early 70's, a pregnant woman's fiance gets wrongly convicted, while her family tries to mend her struggles.
Barry Jenkins follow up to his remarkable film "Moonlight" falls extremely short. This agenda driven film is the complete opposite of entertaining cinema. A monumental misfire, and a waste of gorgeous cinematography and dedicated acting talent.
And it is definitely gorgeously shot, and beautifully scored. Jazz, and the colorful lights of Harlem give the film a wonderful decoration of heart and soul.
However, "If Beale Street Could Talk" is an intentionally nasty film, with little room for debate on its various subjects. Unfortunately, some really excellent performances get lost in the feel bad movie of 2018.
