"Crazy Rich Asians": Movie Review
"Crazy Rich Asians" breaks new diverse grounds, but fails to do anything else. It's an abysmal experience, that lacks any type of real romance or comedy.
Based on a bestseller, Nick Young (Henry Golding) and Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) are a madly in love couple. But Nick Young still hasn't introduced her to his insanely rich family in Singapore.
It's a cliched plot, but the worst offense is that it succeeds in almost nothing. It isn't funny, romantic, charming, sad, or even fun. Even the acting is mediocre, which translates to some truly unfunny and embarrassingly constructed goofball scenes.
What's worst is that the movies run time is just over 2 hours. This translates to drawn out comedic moments, odd subplots, and just a total lack of cohesion from scene to scene. It's a dreadful slog almost all the way through.
"Crazy Rich Asians" is a total bust. It has at most two scenes that made me smile, but never does it come together as something I could even remotely recommend. What is truly a beautifully way to broaden diversity in Hollywood, comes across as a quick cash grab.
Stay away at all costs.
