The Fate of the Furious Movie Review

The Fate of the Furious: The Best Furious Movie Since The 2001 Entry

Since "The Fast and the Furious" original 2001 film, the franchise has consistently been increasing the octane, for better or for worst. The franchise has become a love letter to fans of the series, that enjoy big, dumb fun. But since the exciting first entry to the series, The Fast and the Furious installments have all been disappointing, even though they usually deliver whats promised. But the eighth installment embraces its stupidity even more, and its definitely for the better.

The film starts in the wonderfully colorful Cuba, where Dom (Vin Diesel) meets a mysteriously seductive woman (Charlie Theron) that turns Dom against his team and brings him into the world of terrorism and violence. It's the most involved and interesting plot to date, which isn't saying much, since each installment seems to try harder and harder to keep the plot as simple as possible. But the story here is just a way to show off the incredible set pieces, and make no mistake, they are incredible.

F. Gary Gray ("Straight Outta Compton") has outdone himself with the action put on screen. From the crazy camera work in a prison, to the hectic streets of New York, this eighth installment never gives the audience a chance to truly breath. It's a marvel to watch, and it's definitely recommended you see it with a bigger audience to share in the excitement.

But, even with these larger action scenes, the film is still cringe inducing. Unfunny dialogue, some bad editing, and truly awkward moments with Scott Eastwood, hold it back from being great. Most fans will embrace it, but there's an overabundance to it, where we find Dwayne Johnson coaching his kids soccer team, or Tyrese Gibson trying way too hard to be funny.

"The Fate of the Furious" is every action junkies wet dream. This installment never lets go of the gas, and truly is what this franchise's goal has been all these years. The dialogue is as silly as its ever been and the editing especially in the slower moments is painfully awful. But it's the spectacle of the prolonged action  scenes that are remarkable to watch. If your a fan of the series it's a must see, otherwise proceed with caution.
