Worst Movies of 2016

THE WORST OF THE WORST FILMS OF 2016

10. Hail Caesar

Probably goes down as the worst Coen brothers movie in their long running history. This meandering, absolute bore of a film has a hugely talented cast that seems lost in their roles other than Channing Tatum who has the only bright spot of the movie. It's beyond me what exactly went wrong with this mess of a film.

9. Independence Day Resurgence

Who asked for this exactly? Without Will Smith in the lead role, "Independence Day Resurgence" has an awful plot and equally horrible acting with a last fifteen minutes that at least has some fun with itself. This is a project that needed to be left on the shelves.

8. Snowden

Oliver Stone directing and Joseph Gordon Levitt as Snowden sounds like a match made in heaven. Except it isn't and the overacting of Levitt doesn't help with getting invested in the film at all. Stone has a way of creating a competently made film, even if it's sharply exaggerated, but this isn't even remotely a well made film.

7. Jack Reacher: Never Go Back

With a winning formula already in the books for the first Jack Reacher, this cringe worthy attempt at making an action movie is an embarrassment. The actors seem bored, the action scenes meander, and the plot is as traditional as it can get. It's a real shame, as this franchise could have been excellent if done right.

6. Suicide Squad

Delayed production, and obvious lack of communication between the actors and director David Ayer, has created the worst superhero movie of all time. Ayer who directed "Fury" previously and "End of Watch" has to know that he screwed this one up big time. If there's one take away, at least the music is really good.

5. Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk

Ang Lee is a great filmmaker when he has everything working for him. But when in the first ten minutes I knew something was wrong, it was gonna be a long time at the movies. It's not even the actors fault, but Billy Lynn seems intent on drilling the message of commercializing marines that it forgot about anything that makes a quality film work.

4. Zoolander 2

Zoolander 1 is a classic that can be watched over and over again with hilarious performances by Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller. But this half baked comedy isn't funny (except one scene with Kiefer Sutherland) and even worst is that it tries too hard to actually take itself seriously. Yes you heard me right, Zoolander 2 tries to actually have a serious plot, and if some reason you still want to see it, that's on you.

3. Jason Bourne

It's almost upsetting that I'm actually writing that Jason Bourne ended up on this list. If you told me that a year ago I wouldn't have believed you, since the formula for the three movies previously have been so excellent. But strip away everything that made Jason Bourne fun and engrossing and you have this steaming pile of a film. It's not fun or smart or interesting or doesn't even have a plot that even makes sense. Paul Greengrass is a great filmmaker and lets hope he doesn't destroy this series as much as he did already.

2. The Girl On The Train

This isn't the type of bad movie you can laugh at or even have fun with, its that horrible. It tries to be sexy and intriguing and smart but its none of those things. It ends up falling flat on it's face with great actors here such as Emily Blunt who overplays the role immensely. It's hard to imagine a film being worst, as this is how to not make a film 101.

1. Hardcore Henry

Oh man, where to begin. Other than feeling nauseous as I left the theater "Hardcore Henry" takes the prize for the worst movie of the year. Horrible fight scenes, a gimmicky first person view throughout the whole film and awful acting, it's amazing to me that this even made it to theaters. There's absolutely nothing to recommend about it, and as someone who adores film, it was offensive to watch, stay away at all cost.
